Abstract

This is the Introduction and first lecture in a series of 7 lectures given as part of the workshop "Ground-based and remote sensing of volcanic unrest" (IUGG 2011)
Organized by Jeffrey Johnson & Eliza Calder

The workshop involved seven talks focused on fundamental tools used for monitoring and scientific investigation of active volcanic systems. Lectures emphasize emerging technologies, recent case studies, and multi-disciplinary applications.
