The group serves as a venue for information sharing on the topics of data assimilation and inverse modelling of volcanic eruption clouds.

The 2nd WMO-IUGG workshop on ash dispersal forecast and civil aviation held in November 2013 informed that several groups are working on these topics and a better communication between the different actors would be beneficial.

Information about ongoing research activities, published work and challenges that emerge in these fields are topics of particular interest.
