Working Group on Hazard Mapping

The Working Group on Hazard Mapping is led by Eliza Calder and Jan Lindsay. The main aim of the group is to produce an IAVCEI-endorsed series of guidelines for the preparation of volcanic hazard maps. The initiative was launched during a workshop on hazard mapping at the COV8 Conference in Jogjakarta, Indonesia, in September 2014. At that workshop participants established the scope of the guidelines, and our next steps:

1. Workshop 1: COV8 workshop on hazard mapping (September 2014)

2. Draft guidelines based on workshop discussions circulated to the wider hazard mapping working group (January 2014)

3. Workshop 2: Venue and date tbd. Updated draft guidelines discussed

4. Revised draft of guidelines circulated to wider hazard mapping working group (date tbd)

5. Final draft of guidelines circulated to members of the Commission on Volcanic Hazard and Risk (date tbd)

6. Guidelines sent to IAVCEI executive for endorsement (date tbd)

7. Guidelines submitted to Open Access Journal of Applied Volcanology and peer reviewed (date tbd)
