Biography
He is Master of Science in Earthquake Engineering, Civil and Mechanical Engineer of the “Los Andes” University (Universidad de los Andes, in Spanish), in Bogotá, Colombia. He currently courses a Master of Science in Numerical Methods and a PhD in Structural Analysis at Barcelona Tech University (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, in Catalan), in Barcelona, Spain. At present he works as a catastrophe risk modeler in ITEC S.A.S., a Colombia based company. He is director of the Natural Hazards Analysis and Modeling division of the company. He is also General Manager and Associate of CES I&D S.A.S, a Colombia based company. He has worked as Research Engineer at Universidad de los Andes, in Bogotá, Colombia. He participated in the development of the CAPRA platform (Comprehensive Approach for Probabilistic Risk Assessment) for the World Bank, IDB and UN-ISDR.
His professional and academic experience is related to the following fields: engineering seismology, strong motion processing, seismic instrumentation, natural phenomena hazard assessment (earthquake, tsunami, hurricane, flooding, landslide and volcanic eruptions), soil seismic dynamic response, structural non-linear response, building vulnerability assessment, catastrophe risk assessment and risk management specific applications (insurance/reinsurance, cost-benefit analysis of mitigation measures, emergency response plans). He possesses very strong knowledge in mathematics and probability concepts, excellent skills for software development using object-oriented languages (specifically visual basic .NET) and excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
