Biography
Patrick Whelley uses satellite and airborne data with geologic field investigations to study surface processes and their products. He studied planetary geology with Ron Greeley at Arizona State University, in Tempe Arizona, from 2000 to 2007. At ASU he was a member of the Mars Exploration Rover Science Team and earned a BS and MS in Geological Science. He completed his PhD in Geology under the advisement of Eliza Calder in 2012 at the University at Buffalo in Buffalo New York. At UB he studied physical volcanology and pyroclastic deposits using a combination of field investigations and remote sensing. At The Earth Observatory of Singapore he is funded by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore to assess the probability of a volcanic eruption interrupting air traffic in Southeast Asia.
