ISMIP6 initMIP-Antarctica simulations

This dataset contains the initMIP-Antarctica model simulations from the Ice Sheet Model Intercomparison Project for CMIP6 (ISMIP6). As described in Nowicki et al. (2016) and Seroussi et al. (2019), the initMIP-Antarctica experiments focus on ice sheet initialization for the Antarctic ice sheet and associated uncertainty in sea-level projections.

See here for the protocol, participating models and requested model output data.  Results of initMIP-Antarctica have been published in Seroussi et al. (2019). The dataset is also available on Zenodo. A brief overview of the participating models and characteristics is shown in the table below (Table  2 of Seroussi et al. (2019)).

The data can be downloaded from the Globus GHub-ISMIP6-initMIP endpoint. Please log in and click on the Download tab to receive the Download instructions.

Acknowledgements

The experimental protocol and datasets for the ISMIP6-initMIP-Antarctica standalone ice sheet simulations would not have been possible without the effort of many scientists that have given their time and expertise. Finally, we thank the ISMIP6 ice sheet modelers for their feedback on the design of the protocol and their willingness to participate in ISMIP6.

Terms of use and citation requirements

To enable modeling groups and others who support CMIP6 and ISMIP6 to demonstrate its impact (and secure ongoing funding), you are required to cite and acknowledge those who have made CMIP6 and ISMIP6 possible. Please read and adhere to the CMIP6 and ISMIP6 Terms of Use.

Credits

We thank the Climate and Cryosphere (CliC) effort, which provided support for ISMIP6 through sponsoring of workshops, hosting the ISMIP6 website and wiki, and promoted ISMIP6. We acknowledge the World Climate Research Programme, which, through its Working Group on Coupled Modelling, coordinated and promoted CMIP5 and CMIP6. We thank the climate modeling groups for producing and making available their model output, the Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) for archiving the CMIP data and providing access, the University at Buffalo for ISMIP6 data distribution and upload, and the multiple funding agencies who support individual ice sheet modelers, CMIP5 and CMIP6 and ESGF. We thank the ISMIP6 steering committee, the ISMIP6 model selection group and ISMIP6 dataset preparation group for their continuous engagement in defining ISMIP6.
